THERAPIST

Carrie Gillett, LCMFT

Carrie has lived in 8 different states, from California to Connecticut, Minnesota and Michigan to Florida, and in the middle of the country: Illinois, Nebraska, and has lived here in Wichita, Kansas, for the past 17 years. She has enjoyed getting to know people from varied walks of life.  R

Carrie spent the first part of her adult life raising children: 6 biological children, several foster children, god children, day care children, and 4 foreign exchange students. Then she went back to school to study piano pedagogy. Realizing many of her students and families wanted to talk to her about their lives and struggles during their piano lessons, she changed her major and graduated from Wichita State University with a minor in music and a major in Psychology in 2014. She graduated from Friends Marriage and Family Program with a masters in 2016.

Carrie enjoys building relationships with people to help them sort their emotions and to give them voice. Creating a space of unconditional respect and acceptance, she strengthens them to do the work of therapy. She works with adults on attachment, trauma, depression, anxiety, and more. Even though she was done raising children when in graduate school, she found herself drawn to parenting books, devouring them, and practicing on piano students and grandchildren. She is passionate about teaching parents ways to connect with their children to create an environment where children flourish and parents feel competent and effective, especially those raising traumatized children, and foster and adopted children.

If you are looking for a compassionate way to heal, Internal Family Systems (IFS) has become more than a therapy for Carrie, it has become a way of living. She is also trained in and utilizes Attachment Theory, Trauma-Informed, Family Systems Theory, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Gottman Therapy to assist people in working through their struggles to attain stronger connections with themselves and others.

Groups

Carrie is a practitioner of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI) and facilitates groups.

She is trained in Making Sense of Your Worth to help groups of women and teenagers work through shame and learn how to identify and recover from toxic relationships.
